No Top Titles for 60s Today

Life Gets a Tad Tougher for HHI Super Seniors at South Carolina State Championships

SEABROOK ISLAND SC (TENNIS E-News) -- It was a beautiful weekend weatherwise, but it finished off in a drought today for Hilton Head Island teams at the USTA League South Carolina Super Senior State Championships. With a couple of SS championships already in pocket from Men's and Women's 70s winnings Friday and Saturday, the HHI leaguers were only able to manage two finalists in the M&W 60s today.

In a cross-HHIsland semifinal, HHI #2 Country Club of Hilton Head Tiebreakers, captained by Carolyn Brookmeyer, won 2-1 over HHI $3 PD Golden Girls, captained by Gerry Pinkerton. However, in the finals, the CCHH 'Breakers fell 2-1 to Upper Piedmont's Cardinal of Anderson.

In the 60s Men's 3.0, HHI #3 Dataw dawgs, captained by Terry Lurtz, won in today's semifinal 2-1 over Columbia's Parklane Super Oldies, but then lost 2-1 in the finals to Upper Piedmont's Keowee Key Krabs of Salem.

In the Men's 3.5s, the Long Cove Super Retreads dropped a close one in the semifinals, going down in a third-set match tiebreak on the deciding court of a 2-1 match with Lexington's Topspin Swim & Racquet.

The HHI league's champions all came in the 70s: Spring Lake Cruisers in Men's 3.0, Indigo Run Golden Bear Claws in Men's 3.5 and Sun City Golden Girls in Women's 3.0.
