Benefit for Children's Health Research
Adults & Juniors Will Compete in RE/MAX CMN Tournament Sept. 5-7
HILTON HEAD ISLAND SC (TENNIS E-News) -- Area tennis players will dash from court to TV to court the first weekend in September at the 13th annual RE/MAX CMN Doubles Tournament at Palmetto Dunes Tennis Center. The Sept. 5-7 benefit for the Children's Miracle Network will play out with a background of the US Open final weekend in New York.
Set up as a two-tournament format, the 3rd annual RE/MAX CMN Junior Singles will run in boys and girls age divisions of 10 & under, 12 & under, 14 & under and 16 & under. Two matches will be guaranteed with the entry fee of $30 per player. Entry deadline is Sunday, Aug. 30.
The Adult Doubles Tournament will be in men's, women's and mixed rating divisions of 2.5, 3.0, 3.5, 4.0, 4.5, 5.0 and Open. Entry fee is $45 per person if playing one event and $55 if playing in two. $5 from each entry will be donated to CMN. Giuseppi's Pizza & Pasta will host a player party. Entry deadline is Sunday the 30th.
Proceeds raised will go to CMN at the Medical University of South Carolina Children's Hospital in Charleston.

"Split" Kicks in for 3.5s
Coastal Carolina Super Seniors Start Wednesday; Schedules Posted on TennisLink
HILTON HEAD ISLAND SC (TENNIS E-News) -- The USTA League Super Senior 2008 season will get rolling Wednesday with Coastal Carolina Tennis Association's first openers -- the 60s Men's and Women's 3.5s. The Tennis Association of HHI will get its action going Monday the 25th in the 60s Men's 3.0s.
This first season under The Split of the two tennis areas will have each operating 60s Men's and Women's 3.0s and 3.5s as well as 70s Men's 3.0s and 3.5s. Champions from both sides of the bridge will advance directly to States. A combined 60s Men's 2.5 will be played under the CCTA banner; 60s Men's and Women's 4.0s will play under TAHHI as will 70s Women's 3.0 and 3.5 and 75s Men's 3.0 and 3.5.
Here is the layout of the land as the Supers get set to play. South Carolina State Championships will be Nov. 7-9 at Wild Dunes on Isle of Palms.

2. Scroll down left column and select TennisLink, then
3. Under TennisLink, select Leagues, then
4. Scroll down and on right select Advanced Search, then
5. On dropdown, select year 2008, then
6. Select section as Southern, then
7. Select district as SC-Hilton Head or SC-Beaufort County, then
8. Select league (2008 Super Senior 60 or Super Senior 70, etc.),
9. Select category (3.0 Women’s, etc.) and select Go, then
10. Select Match Summary and the complete schedule will appear
11. Select number of specific match you want, then
12. Scroll to bottom of page and select Print Blank Card
TAHHI's US Open Social is a Sellout … But You Can Do the Cookout
HILTON HEAD ISLAND SC (TENNIS E-News) -- The US Open Social of the Tennis Association of HHI is "sold" out for its round robin play, but TAHHI members still can sign up for the cookout. Both events are Sunday, Aug. 31, at Port Royal Racquet Club with tennis from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Players already registered are to come in red, white and blue attire, social director Pat Leinberger said. A free cookout will be held after the tennis and is open to all TAHHI members. "So even if you were too late to get registered you can still stop by and join in the festivities," she said. There is a $10 fee for guests who are not members. Also, no shows will not be allowed to register for the next social. For questions and if you want to be on a player waiting list, contact Leinberger at 705-6014.

Amelia Is. WTA Tournament To Move to Ponte Vedra in 2009 … story below
JACKSONVILLE FL -- In a move harking back to Family Circle Cup's move from Hilton Head Island to Charleston's Daniel Island, the Bausch & Lomb Championships will be hopping from Amelia Island FL down the coast to Ponte Vedra in 2009, becoming the MPS Group Championships. Sawgrass Country Club will be the new home for the Apr. 6-12 event.
The Jacksonville-based, Fortune 1000 MPS Group, Inc., will become the new title sponsor for a three-year term once the event gets its anticipated Sony Ericsson WTA Tour Board approval. The MPS Group Championships will be one of nine sanctioned for the sony Ericsson WTA worldwide calendar. The tournament will celebrate its 30th anniversary in 2009.
Sawgrass is in Ponte Vedra Beach, 20 miles east of downtown Jacksonville, and has hosted the Lipton World Doubles Championships of the ATP Tour and the Players Championship of the PGA Tour. The MPS Group Championships is managed and owned by Octagon, the international sports and entertainment agency whose tennis division manages tennis professionals and owns and manages other professional tennis events.
