Winners were: Junior Division -- Roman Battistelli, 74 mph; Women's -- Carolyn Kraus, 65 mph; Men's -- James Malkin and Tim Ryan tied at 88 mph with Ryan winning with a tiebreak serve of 87 mph.

Season Runs Through Mid-July

Super Senior Combo Up & Running in Men's & Women's 6.5 & 7.5

HILTON HEAD ISLAND SC (TENNIS E-News) -- The Island's sophomore year of Super Senior Combo has turned coed, with two men's divisions joining the format that last year's inaugural season had only women's teams. The Women's 6.5 and 7.5 got started first; the Men's same divisions begin June 3 and 10, respectively.

Rosters remain open in all divisions. Players interested in joining a team should contact a participating club or email local coordinator Kathy Foulke at kathyfoulke@netscape.net.

Also Adult and Senior Mixed Doubles are lined up and ready for first matches early next month. Willing players not attached to a team should contact a participating club or email coordinator Jackie Reynecke at jackie@palmettodunes.com.

The mixed doubles numbers have taken a leap up, thanks mostly to an increase in Seniors from 14 teams in 2007 to 21 this summer. Adults are up from 21 to 23.

HILTON HEAD ISLAND SC (TENNIS E-News by TennisLink) -- The Bluffton HS Alley Cats brought the HHI leagues their first South Carolina Adult State Championship since 2005, winning the Women's 2.5 title today at Charleston Tennis Center. The Women's 4.5 Palmetto Dunes States or Busts lost in the finals.

The Alley Cats, captained by Dianne Austin, got the day started with an early 2-1 win over Low Country #1 Daniel Island in the semifinals. They came back at midday to defeat Grand Strand's Prestwick Playas 2-1 in the final.

The Cats got two singles wins today from Lisa Kempthorne and two wins at #2 doubles by the team of Iris Petrillo and Aimee Stephens. The champions went 3-0 in their group round robin Saturday and Sunday.

The Women's 4.5 PD gals, captained by Michelle Clark, were unable to pull off another comeback like they did Sunday to advance to the finals. They won a third-set match tiebreak, but lost three other matches in straight sets.
