First Season of "The Split"

Pre-Registration Open for Coastal Carolina Tennis Assn. Fall Leagues: July 13 Deadline

DATAW ISLAND SC (TENNIS E-News via Vivian Wayne) -- Coastal Carolina Tennis Association (CCTA) is setting up for its first season with USTA League Super Senior team pre-registration forms out and ready to be completed by the July 13 deadline. The new district is comprised of Bluffton, Beaufort and The Islands, excluding Hilton Head Island.

Vivian Wayne is level coordinator for women and Ernie Clark is coordinating for men. Captains from last season and anyone who is a potential captain should contact Clark at tennisracquets@yahoo.com or Wayne at cctawomen@yahoo.com. At this point, Wayne said that pre-registration forms designating a team's intention and captain and co-captain names are the only necessities. Super Senior teams can enter levels of 2.5, 3.0, 3.5 and 4.0 in age divisions 60s, 70s and 75s. After all teams have pre-registered, team numbers will be assigned and rosters will begin to be filled.

Once CCTA and Tennis Association of HHI reach the July 13 deadline, the determination will be made on which men's and women's levels will operate separately and which will continue as in previous years.

CCTA team play will most likely start in early September. A team roster will have to consist of at least six players, but no more than 12. No more than 25% of the roster may consist of below-level players. The South Carolina District Championships will be Nov. 7-9 on Isle of Palms.

You can bet we're not going to do …..

You know what usually happens when you try a "cute" shot. The ball ends up in the net or doesn't even get that far.

Well, TENNIS E-News netted its own cutie in the last issue.

While bragging in "TENNIS E-News FootNote " that tennis had "made it" to the big time because of a Sharapova lingerie photo spam offering, TENNIS E-News gave the origin address of the spam email and the webpage address. Well, DUH. If that email was determined to be spam by our hargray.com, wouldn't every other system judge it likewise? Yep. Our headslap.

Compliments go to charter.net, embarqmail.com, juno.com and others for bouncing that issue back to us because of use of the spam addresses. The rest? We don't know, but we certainly apologize for any inconvenience caused. Dumb, with a cap "D". Sorry about that.

Super Senior & Combo Pre-Registration Time

Combo Deadline July 1; Super Senior Deadline July 13 -- All Levels 60s & 70s

HILTON HEAD ISLAND SC (TENNIS E-News) -- Time is running short to pre-register teams for the 2008 Combo League season -- men's and women's, adult and seniors. Pre-reg forms also are available for Super Seniors of 60s, 70s and 75s men's and women's teams.

Combo Coordinator Kathy Foulke reports that three 8.5 teams are registered, along with a few 7.5s and one 6.5, but no 5.5s. Registration is open for Adult 5.0, 5.5, 6.5, 7.5, 8.5, 9.5 and 10.5 and Senior 5.5, 6.5, 7.5 and 8.5. League play will begin in late summer and lead to the South Carolina State Championships Oct. 24-27 that also will include Super Senior Combo.

To get on a combo team or for more information, contact Foulke at kathyfoulke@netscape.net or call 681-9649.

Super Senior 60s, 70s and 75s also are set for start in the last week in August or first week in September, keying toward State Championships Nov. 7-9 at Wild Dunes, Isle of Palms.

Captains needing pre-registration forms need to contact Mary Ellen Arboe for all women's levels and Men's 2.5s at tennisbeachbums@aol.com. All other men's rating and age level captains need to contact Don Grider at dmgrider@roadrunner.com. Individual players hoping to join a team, especially 75s, should contact the appropriate coordinator.

The fall leagues will mark the start of separate leagues for Hilton Head Island and across-the-bridge teams. Decision will come later on whether individual levels will split and which levels will be under which area coordinator. If you are not confused by this, you should be.
