USTA LEAGUE STANDINGS

Mixed Doubles League Participation Just Keeps Growing and Growing and Growing and ..............

HILTON HEAD ISLAND SC (TENNIS E-News) -- In 2007, there were 35 total teams involving 481 players in USTA Mixed Doubles Leagues -- including those from both sides of The Bridge. In the '08 season, again operating as one league program, 45 teams competed with 595 players on the total rosters.

Welcome to the 2009 MxD season. Hilton Head Island Tennis Leagues and Coastal Carolina Tennis Association leagues are now covering the same territory, but in separate area league systems. The combined number is 67 teams and 875 players. Addition of Super Senior Mixed has been a kick in the numbers game.

The HHI leagues are about double the size of CCTA, which is operating in its first complete season. HHI combined adult and senior leagues have 44 teams, with 576 players; Coastal Carolina has 23 teams and 299 players. Rosters remain open in both areas, so those player numbers are likely to grow.

Playwise, here are how things stand now.

BLUFFTON SC (TENNIS E-News) – The Sun City Senior Doubles took the temps pretty much in stride today, aided by loads of ice, cold beer and an occasional breeze to set up an early Sunday morning start on finals. Championship matches will continue through the morning and into the early afternoon, with lots of consolation action as well.

As a nod to the weather, Tournament Referees Paul and Cindy Vanderberg mandated a 10-point super tiebreak instead of a third set. Today, players had the option of using no-ad scoring. No matter, the ice chest, beer truck and lunch layout provided by Jim ‘n’ Nick’s Bar-B-Q were the most popular sites of both days.

Tournament Director Ernie Clark had his cast of thousands of volunteers in gear for the USTA SC-honored event that has been upgraded to Level 3 status, meaning the results carry more weight in year-end age-division rankings. Note: This is age-division rankings, not NTRP ratings.

Here are results from Friday matches as posted on TennisLink. We’ll be catching up tomorrow on today’s action and the finals.

Sweatin' It Out at Sun City

TENNIS E-NEWS is really blue over the most recent issue. It was a non-issue, in that with the format used

it was virtually unreadable and undecipherable. Sorry about that. Won’t try that again.
