They'll Decide All About Your Tennis in 2008 … and You Are Invited To Attend

HILTON HEAD ISLAND SC (TENNIS E-News) -- Friday and Saturday is USTA South Carolina annual meeting time at The Westin Resort and you are invited to sit in on the many committee meetings and business and social sessions that will decide on programs, rules and such for the 2008 playing year.

The weekend will include USTA SC's annual business meeting Saturday at 10 a.m. that will feature Dr. Jim Loehr on 'The Power of Story" and will be capped by Saturday night's Awards and Hall of Fame Banquet. Two Hilton Head Islanders are award winners -- Judy Levering, Adult Women's Player of the Year, and Zack Sprouse, Junior Boys Player of the Year. Helen Jeter of Greenville and Larry Rizzo of Florence will be inducted into the South Carolina Tennis Patrons Hall of Fame.

The open-to-USTA-members meetings will begin Friday afternoon and continue Saturday morning and afternoon. Committees will be considering topics ranging from awards to sanction and scheduling to grievances to leagues to junior and adult competition.

Islanders' Deadline This Week for $100 Discount on PTR Symposium in February

HILTON HEAD ISLAND SC (TENNIS E-News) -- The PTR International Tennis Symposium & $25,000 Championships in February will be open to a special Islander discount to Professional Tennis Registry pros in the Hilton Head Island area. A $100 discount is being offered, but the deadline is this week.

For a rundown of the Feb. 16-22 symposium calendar, check the PTR website http://www.ptrtennis.org. To register this week call the PTR office at 785-7244 or go to the website ptr@ptrtennis.org for a form that can be faxed to 686-2033 or taken to the office at Van der Meer Shipyard Racquet Club.

A High School Coaches Package is being offered over President¹s Weekend Feb. 16-18. The package begins Saturday with an on-court PTR drill exchange from 1-3 p.m., followed by a course entitled Team Coaching from 6:30-9:30 p.m. A Coaches Breakfast Reception, sponsored by the USTA, will be held Sunday morning followed by a panel discussion. Additional courses,

including Periodization for Juniors, Effectively Coaching the Parents and Proper Alignment to Improve Performance and Fatigue, will be conducted on Sunday and Monday afternoons.

How To Find Ratings -- Individual, Team, Everyone's -- Start with http://www.sctennis.com and, at left on the Home Page, select TennisLink, then select Leagues, then (on the right) scroll down to Find a Rating. You can key in an individual name or scroll to the Drilldown Search which will get you to a series of dropdown windows to select Championship Year (2007), Section (Southern), District (South Carolina) and Area (SC-Hilton Head Island). From there, select whether you want all players, only Women's 3.5s, etc. The "Ratings Appeals" tab is on the sctennis.com.

Jokers Hold Lead in Adult Team Tennis; Juniors Continue Play

HILTON HEAD ISLAND SC (from The Chaplin Chatter) -- Following a two-week break, the USA Adult Team Tennis league was back in action over the weekend. There were some great matchups, but in the end Jack's Jokers retain their first-place position. The Jokers hold a 4-game lead over the Long Cove Nap-sters, with three more matches before the South Carolina District Championships.

Here are results from the Junior Team Tennis (via Robert Brown): Racquet Club Villains def. Chaplin Park Red Devils in the 18s Division 34-27; Wexford Warriors def. Dolphins 27-23 in the 12-year-old Beginner; Dolphins beat Wexford 32-16 in the 14s; Beaufort Jazz beat Red Devils of Chaplin Park 26-25 in the 18s; Dolphins beat the Bluffton BadKatz in a doubleheader 36-21 and 32-22 in the 14-and-Under Intermediates and Wexford Warriors beat Beaufort Jazz 27-22, also in the 14s.

With several matches played, the 14-and-Under Intermediate Division looks as follows: 1. Dolphins; 2. Villains; 3. Badkatz; 4. Wexford; 5. Beaufort
