Look for Banana Open Challenge coverage in The Island Packet
HILTON HEAD ISLAND SC (TENNIS E-News) – The 24th annual Banana Open Challenge will began Friday at Palmetto Dunes Tennis Center, but results will not be in TENNIS E-News before at least late next week. Look for a results pass from Tournament Director Jackie Reynecke to Island Packet sports guys Sam McDowell and Justin Jarrett to get to our reading public. (We are heading off-island on an unexpected family matter.)
Good luck on your tournament play.

Life Lost in Fatal Crash
Tennis Benefit Set for Laura Gage Fund Oct. 20 at Spanish Wells
HILTON HEAD ISLAND SC (TENNIS E-News) – A charity tennis event to benefit the Children’s Organ Transplant Association (COTA) will be held Monday, Oct. 20, at Spanish Wells.
The Laura Gage Golf and Tennis Tournament will be in memory of the Hilton Head Island 19-year-old who lost her life in a 1995 traffic accident. Her parents, Bob and Fiona Grygiel, have campaigned for organ transplant legislation and have set up the annual tournament.
Spanish Wells pro Mike Caboy will run an afternoon round robin. Entry fee is $50 per person that will include tennis, a dinner and prizes. The tournament is limited to 32 players. “We will close entries as soon as we reach 32,” Bob Grygiel said, “but donations would be greatly appreciated -- cash or prizes we can raffle.”
Entry fee for golf is $100 that includes golf, dinner and prizes. All of the tournament proceeds, in joining with COTA, will go to support a family in need, Fiona Grygiel said. In this case it will be a 15-year-old Charleston boy in need of a life-saving liver transplant.
For more information or to register, contact the Grygiels at 681-2180.
