Super Senior Teams Lined Up for State Championships Nov. 6-9
HILTON HEAD ISLAND SC (TENNIS E-NEWS) -- The cast is set, with exception of one match, for HHI and Coastal Carolina league teams that will be heading for the South Carolina State Super Senior Championships Nov. 6-9 at Wild Dunes on Isle of Palms. The one match – to be played Sunday at Port Royal -- holds in the balance the #1 spot in Women's 60s 3.5s.
Men's and Women's 60s, 70s and Men's 75s will be going for state titles and, beyond that, the chance to advance to Southern Sectionals in April 2009. It is the first year of The Split, meaning TAHHI and CCTA leagues each will be sending champions in the respective Men's and Women's 60s 3.0 and 3.5 and Men's 70s. Both area’s Men's 60s 2.5s are bunched under the CCTA flag. Men's and Women's 4.0s from both areas are going under TAHHI's banner. All Men's 75s are likewise under the TAHHI wing.
The SS70s state playoffs will begin Thursday, Nov. 6, with the 60s getting under way on Friday the 7th. The 70s are to finish Saturday the 8th and the 60s on Sunday the 9th.
It's the first year for the 75s going to States. Much like the 60s and 70s, the 75s started with the HHI leagues and are spreading statewide and likely sectionwide. The "younger" brackets now play to national championships, thanks in great part to the start and continued success here.
The number of teams from the HHI leagues eligible to go to States:
Super Senior 60s:
Two Men’s 3.0 One Women’s 3.0
Two Men’s 3.5 Two Women’s 3.5

TENNIS E-NEWS has not received the compete report of the men’s and women’s teams set for States. Stay tuned.
The SS 60s 2.5 division has only two teams for States – Moss Creek and Country Club of Hilton Head -- and, since both are from our area, the teams will face off against each other here in a best-of-three playoff.
