Wexford, Port Royal, Palmetto Dunes Teams Set for Southern Mixed Doubles Sectionals in New Orleans
HILTON HEAD ISLAND SC (TENNIS E-News) – Three Hilton Head Island league teams will pop off to New Orleans this weekend for the Southern Mixed Doubles Championships. With South Carolina State Championship trophies in hand, the Wexford Dream Team, Port Royal Topspinners and Senior PDTC will begin play Friday morning and roll through finals Sunday against teams from eight other Southern states.
The HHI league teams won state championships in September, turning in one of the best seasons for local mixed teams playing at States. Winners of the rated divisions in New Orleans are scheduled to advance to National Eastern Championships next month
The Adult 5.0 Dream Team will be playing in a seven-team round robin; the Senior 7.0 Topspinners and Senior 8.0 PDTC will compete in group play from with two teams will advance to finals.

Seniors and Open Players Gear Up for Vacation Co. Championships Oct. 22-26
HILTON HEAD ISLAND SC (TENNIS E-News) – The Vacation Company Adult Championships will bring top age-division players from throughout the East Coast for its Oct. 22-26 run at Van Der Meer Shipyard Racquet Club. With a Southern 150-point, South Carolina Level 2 standing, the tournament’s results will carry extra weight in determining year-end rankings. Entry deadline is Sunday the 19th.
Playing categories for the USTA-sanctioned event are men’s and women’s singles and doubles in Open and five-year age divisions of 35 through 75. The Open Division will serve as the third Van Der Meer Open prize-money championship of the year. Entry fees are $38.13 per player for one event and $23 additional if competing in a second division. Fee includes T-shirt, welcome packet and two happy hour parties. Players may enter one singles and one doubles or two doubles.

HHI League Lineups Set for States
Teams Eke Out Championships in Combo Leagues, Advance to Month-End Playoffs
HILTON HEAD ISLAND SC (TENNIS E-News) – You can’t beat the USTA Adult Leagues for tight races this year. Following mixed doubles that came down to fewest points lost, the Adult Combo season was almost as close in determining teams that will advance to the South Carolina Adult, Senior and Super Senior Combo Championships Oct. 24-27 on Daniel Island, Charleston.
In Adult 7.5 Men’s, Bluffton Topspin and Beaufort Combo were tied at 4-1 in team matches and 10-5 in courts won-lost, but the Topspin lost only 13 sets, compared to Beaufort’s 15. In the Adult 7.5 Women’s, Oldfield Combo came through in the end, tied at 4-2 with Palmetto Dunes Chix Mix and SC Yacht Combo, but had a 10-8 courts won-lost record while the other two were 9-9. Topspin and Oldfield go to States.
Here are the season-end standings in Combo as well as an update on Super Senior leagues that are bearing down on crucial matches that will send HHI and Coastal Carolina champions to the State Championships Nov. 7-9 at Wild Dunes on Isle of Palms:
