Rosters Open Until Mar. 15
So You’re Not on a Team for Spring and Want To Be ...
HILTON HEAD ISLAND SC (TENNIS E-News) – Team rosters for the 2009 Hilton Head Island USTA League spring season are filling and, in some cases, full in anticipation of the start of play in a couple weeks. Some teams, however, do need players to compete in addition to the six that were required to get onto the schedule.
Teams seeking players are listed in “Looking for Players” below. Teams can add players to their rosters until midnight, Mar. 14.
The plethora of players signing up for another record spring league season is creating a scramble for courts and, in a few cases, likely to result in teams playing at a neutral court site. “One of these times we’re have to be going to night matches,” Local League Coordinator Jackie Reynecke told those at last week’s captains meetings. “That’s a nice problem to have.”
While Senior League matches have been played on weekday afternoons, this year one team is playing home matches on Saturday. Excedrin Headache #26 for schedulers and captains: One racquet club with 12 courts has five Senior 3.5 teams that play Wednesdays and two teaching pros.
The Spring season will be operating in separate HHI and ‘cross-the-bridge Coastal Carolina divisions. Each will be sending its champions to South Carolina State Championships in May: Seniors on May 9-11 on Hilton Head Island; Adult 4.0, 4.5 and 5.0 May 16-18 in Aiken and Adult 2.5, 3.0 and 3.5 States May 30-June 1 in Greenville.

( ) “No”, perked up one lad. “He only had two worms.”
