But No Mulligans Allowed During the Spring USTA Season

HILTON HEAD ISLAND SC (TENNIS E-News) – What are you to do with a guy like Dick Boyce? How lazy can one get? Golf is bad enough. But finishing a couple holes in only one stroke is the height of unexerciseness.

Yeh, he did two holes-in-one in the same 18-hole round at Sea Pines Country Club.

Next thing he’ll be coming up with two aces in the same match while playing for the Sea Pines (CC) Senior Men in the Senior 3.5 league. Doc Hoffman, who was in the two holes-in-one foursome, is his Seniors team captain and would expect that.

NEW AGAIN IN 2009: Two years ago TENNIS E-News ran a well-received series of excerpts from "The Code, The Players' Guide for Unofficiated Matches". Think we need a repeat? You got it right now.

Audible or visible calls. No matter how obvious it is to a player that the opponent's ball is out, the opponent is entitled to a prompt audible or visible out call.

Opponent's calls questioned. When a player genuinely doubts an opponent's call, the player may ask: "Are you sure of your call?" If the opponent reaffirms that the ball was out, the call shall be accepted. If the Opponent acknowledges uncertainty, the opponent loses the point. There shall be no further delay or discussion.

Spectators never to make calls. A player shall not enlist the aid of a spectator in making a call. No spectator has a part in the match.

If you have a question or situation you would like to have addressed, email banana@hargray.com separately and we will try to help.
