Following A. Riske

Tommy Haas is serving for match at 5-3 in the fourth set against Novak Djokovic, but NBC is showing Roger Federer’s match that ended more than an hour before –

proving that Numbhead Broadcasting Co. , due to “contractural agreements”, could screw up anything … most likely even a hike on the Appalachian Trail.

Must be time for another TENews contest for the best descriptive for the initials NBC. Email your suggestions to banana@hargray.com and we will forward them to No Brains Co.

Its motto: Why broadcast tennis live when you can do it on S.D.T. after everyone knows who won?

Young Players on the Way Up

Following A. Riske Advancing Through the Seeds in Boston

BOSTON MA (TENNIS E-NEWS via usta.com) – Alison Riske, who trains on Hilton Head Island with, among others, his big sister, followed up her win over the #2 seed Thursday with a win over the 5th seed today in the Empire Loan USTA Women’s $50,000 Tournament in Boston.

“Ali” worked her way through three qualifying matches over the weekend and early week to get into the main draw. She then beat Tetiana Luzhanska of Ukraine 4-6, 6-4, 6-3, then 2nd-seeded Lauren Albanese of the USA 6-4, 6-1. Today she won over #5 Valerie Tetreault of Canada. Next up could be Alexandra Mueller to whom she lost in three sets on Hilton Head Island in the final of the Head/Tail USTA Women’s $10,000 Tournament in early June.

Riske is just out of high school and has been training with, among others, her nine-year-older sister Sarah Riske McGlamery, who lives on HHI and is a hyperbaric clinician. Older sis was a four-time all-American at Vanderbilt and that’s where younger sis will be heading in the fall as a freshman. Island pro Yves Boulais, who reported today’s win to TENNIS E-NEWS, trained Sarah Riske when she first came to HHI and has been working with Alison, along with pros at Van Der Meer Tennis.
