District Championship Draws Set

Jokers Win the Battle; Nap-sters Win the War and Local Team Tennis League Title

HILTON HEAD ISLAND SC (TENNIS E-News) -- The regular-season-ending faceoff between #1 Long Cove Nap-sters and #2 Jack's Jokers went to the Jokers, but not by a big enough score margin to knock the Nap-sters out of top spot in the USA Adult Team Tennis League. That sets up Long Cove as the #1 seed in next weekend's District Championships.

The Jokers won the #1, #2 and #4 doubles and the Nap-sters took #3 for an overall score of 33-31 for Captain Jack Abernathy's Jokers. The all-mixed-doubles league title is determined by accumulated games and Captain Joe Sabbatino won that with a 252 win/161 loss record, compared to the Jokers' 244/155.

All eight teams of the local leagues most successful season will meet in the weekend's championship round. #1 Long Cove will play #8 Bluffton Barracudas in the Saturday morning quarterfinals, while #2 Jack's Jokers take on #7 Ray's Racketeers; #3 Tim's Terminators meet #6 Gwen's Gators and #4 Doubles Trouble plays #5 Spanish Wells. Semifinals will be played Saturday afternoon and the final will be Sunday at 1 p.m. at Chaplin Public Tennis Center. A players' party and y'all-come round robin will follow the championship.
