#5 Seed Tops 'Em All
Spanish Wells Wins USA Adult Team Tennis District Championship
HILTON HEAD ISLAND SC (TENNIS E-News) -- The #5 seed New York Giants took ….. whoops, wrong sport … Fifth-seeded Spanish Wells completed its sweep of higher seeds today by upsetting #2 Jack's Jokers to win the USA Adult Team Tennis District Championship at Chaplin Public Tennis Center.
The pre-finals Players Party toasted the fledgling league's most successful season and continued celebrating the very competitive 38-28 win by the #5 seeds over the Jokers. Three of the four courts in the all-mixed-doubles format went to the limit in 10-game pro sets: 10-8, 10-8, 10-9. The fourth court finished with a lopsided score, but was in fact a tightly contested start-to-finish battle for every point.
Winner for Spanish Wells on that fourth court was the 6.5 team of Heather and Greg Galvin, who went undefeated for the weekend with a 30-8 game total including the 10-1 win in the finals.
Like a few other league situations on tennis-rich Hilton Head Island, the champions have no sectionals or nationals to which to advance. The USA Adult Team Tennis program just hasn't progressed to USA-level competition. Stay tuned.
Here are the weekend's results with team seeding in parentheses:

Picking the 'Headline' for New Play Area
Namecalling (or Just Naming) Over The Split
Editor's Note: The answer several emails today, TENNIS E-News plans to continue covering tennis on both sides of The Bridge … unless someone cuts Hargray's cable.
HILTON HEAD ISLAND SC (TENNIS E-News) -- As was mentioned in Saturday's TENNIS E-News, a first step in developing the new USTA League playing district would be choosing a name. Here are the nominees that arrived in the overnight email inbox -- listed in the order the names arrived, with the most recent on top:
Palmetto Tennis Association (PTA)
Beaufort County Tennis Association (BCTA) or Greater Beaufort County Tennis Association (GBCTA)
Off Island Tennis Association (OITA)
Sea Island Tennis Association (SITA)
Southern Palmetto Tennis Association (SPTA)
Coastal Carolina Tennis Association (CCTA)
Sun City Bluffton League
Beaufort County Tennis Association (BCTA)
Bluffton-Beaufort Tennis Association (BBTA)
Coastal Carolina
Coastal Carolina Tennis Association (CCTA)
Tennis Association of the Lowcountry (TALC)
Coastal Carolina
Paradise League
Yes, that is correct. Three different emailers suggested Coastal Carolina as the name.
Anyone interested in joining the organizing effort and/or in continuing in one of the official roles should contact Reynecke at jackie@palmettodunes.com.
"Lowcountry" is not one of the possible names because that already is the Charleston area designation. Got a suggestion? Email it to TENNIS E-News at banana@hargray.com and the name will be passed on to the league organizers.

( ) We just passed the anniversary of the first published Wordcross Puzzle.
( ) Wordcross? According to a National Public Radio report, the creator of the puzzle intended for that to
(___) be the name. However, a typographer got it reversed and it wasn't noticed until printed. Crossword stuck.
