TENNIS E-News

Mar. 14, 2008 Vol. VII, No. 26
South Carolina Tennis 2006 Media Award Winner
Hilton Head Island SC

Gentleman's/Lady's Decision: In a tournament, when a semifinalist(s) knows he/she will be unable to make it for the final round, especially for personal reasons like travel, doc appt., golf game, etc., an appropriate action to take is: Retire at match point. That is, you are winning 6-4, 5-2 (40-love) and you walk to the net and tell your opponent you are retiring. Score: 4-6, 2-5 ret. Actually the same can be applied at any round, but is especially meaningful in the semifinals.
