Tournament Deadlines Approaching

RE/MAX CMN Junior & Adult Entries Due in Sunday -- Forms Attached to this issue

HILTON HEAD ISLAND SC (TENNIS E-News) -- HAPPY SEPTEMBER FOOL'S DAY. And you know what that means: Entry deadline is tomorrow (Sunday) for the RE/MAX CMN Junior Singles and Adult Doubles that will be played next weekend at Palmetto Dunes Tennis Center. Entry forms are attachments to this issue. Deadline is 7 p.m. Sunday.

Though the Adult portion of the tournament is long-running, the Junior divisions will be back from a successful start last year. The tournament sends all of its proceeds to the Children's Miracle Network for treatment and research of area children by the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston.

In addition to a weekend full of good tennis, a silent auction will run throughout and special drawings also will be held.

Fripp Island Fall Clay Court Championships -- The USTA-sanctioned tournament will be played Sept. 28-Oct. 1 at Fripp Island Racquet Club in odd age divisions -- Open, 35-75 -- men's and women's singles and doubles, as well as mixed open 35-65 and rated division singles and doubles. Entry deadline is Saturday, Sept. 22, 5 p.m. Online entry can be made at http://www.sctennis.com. Click on TennisLink, the Tournaments, then use Tournament ID#704 137507.

MEANWHILE, ABOUT THE BANANA OPEN CHALLENGE … Entries for the Banana Open Challenge have been mailed to the winners and finalists of the June 8-10 Hilton Head Island Banana. Forms also may be picked up at Palmetto Dunes, host site of the playoffs among players from local Bananas in Virginia, Maryland, Georgia, Florida, North and South Carolina. All other entrants are welcome to enter the lottery drawing for a chance to participate in the Oct. 5-7 Challenge. Info at 785-1152.

2nd Annual Van der Meer Junior Championships Set for Sept. 28-30

HILTON HEAD ISLAND SC (TENNIS E-News) -- The 2nd annual Van der Meer Junior Championships will be played Sept 28-30 in Boys' and Girls' 10s through 18s singles. Entries should be made online at http://www.usta.com, using Tournament ID#704110307.

All players will receive a player packet with T-shirt, coupons, etc. Player party and pro exhibition will be held Saturday the 29th at 5:30 p.m. and will include pizza, other refreshments and prizes for all players and parents.

Van der Meer Tennis Academy is offering two pre-tournament drill sessions, featuring incoming Academy Director Walker Sahag for all tournament participants at a discounted rate. Session 1 is Thursday, Sept. 27, 3-5:30 p.m.; Session 2 is Friday, Sept. 28, 10 a.m.-Noon.

Super Seniors Jumpstart Season That Will Run Through the End of October

HILTON HEAD ISLAND SC (TENNIS E-News) -- Turn your back for a minute and already the 2007 Super Senior season is under way, with Men's 60s first matches in 3.0s and 3.5s in the books the first week. Most other divisions get going next week. Play will continue through the end of next month, preparing for the early November South Carolina championships.

Meanwhile, Combo is rolling through its midseason. Here are the standings from TennisLink to date:
