Making a Splash!! In Beaufort: It’s Opening Day for Weekend Event
BEAUFORT SC (TENNIS E-NEWS via TennisLink) – Opening rounds were today in the annual Beaufort Summer Splash!! – the only USTA SC-sanctioned tournament to claim two !! points. With 93 entrants, the adult competitors are playing in rated divisions of men’s, women’s and mixed doubles and will run through Sunday finals.
You have to watch out though when you call your tournament the Splash and you are playing at the same time as the Beaufort Water Festival is running. You can pretty much guess at what happened late afternoon and will have to be rescheduled for Saturday and Sunday in the USTA-sanctioned tournament.
TENNIS E-News will have to catch up later in the weekend -- likely Sunday -- with the results of what happened today and what will get played Saturday.

USTA LEAGUE STANDINGS
Mixed Doubles League Participation Just Keeps Growing and Growing and Growing and ..............
HILTON HEAD ISLAND SC (TENNIS E-News) -- In 2007, there were 35 total teams involving 481 players in USTA Mixed Doubles Leagues -- including those from both sides of The Bridge. In the '08 season, again operating as one league program, 45 teams competed with 595 players on the total rosters.
Welcome to the 2009 MxD season. Hilton Head Island Tennis Leagues and Coastal Carolina Tennis Association leagues are now covering the same territory, but in separate area league systems. The combined number is 67 teams and 875 players. Addition of Super Senior Mixed has been a kick in the numbers game.
The HHI leagues are about double the size of CCTA, which is operating in its first complete season. HHI combined adult and senior leagues have 44 teams, with 576 players; Coastal Carolina has 23 teams and 299 players. Rosters remain open in both areas, so those player numbers are likely to grow.
Playwise, here are how things stand now.
