HILTON HEAD ISLAND SC (TENNIS E-News) -- The USTA League State Senior Championships that have been played here for three years will be returning for another three, Jim Purcell, president of the Tennis Association of HHI, has confirmed. Final Match & Finals Sunday

SL The Odd Couples Scrambling for Wins at Southern Mixed Doubles Championships

NEW ORLEANS LA (TENNIS E-News via TennisLink) -- Hilton Head Island's SL The Odd Couples Senior 6.0 team went 1-1 in the first day of play Friday in the USTA League Southern Mixed Doubles Championships. Then they dropped their match today 2-1, but still are in the running for leadership of their group going into the final match Sunday.

Led by Captain Pat Kenworthy, the Spring Lake team is representing South Carolina, competing against those from eight other states for the right to represent Southern in the Mixed Doubles Nationals later this year. The Couples placed a close second in the South Carolina championship last month. However, the champions were unable to make the trip to Southerns, so the HHIslanders got the opportunity and took it.

Larry and Paula Legrand have led the way for the HHIslanders, winning all three of their matches in straight sets. A team win the Sunday's match is a must to have any chance at making the category finals. Although now tied for fourth place, The Odd Couples are in a group so closely competitive that all team matches have ended 2-1. Even the team below the Couples could still win the group #1 spot after Sunday morning matches. Mississippi's state runnerup is currently at #1 in their group.
