SL The Odd Couples Set for Trip to Southern Mixed Doubles Championships
HILTON HEAD ISLAND SC (TENNIS E-News) -- SL The Odd Couples Combo 6.0 team is heading for New Orleans next weekend to compete as South Carolina's entrant in the USTA League Southern Mixed Doubles Championships.
Led by Captain Pat Kenworthy, the Spring Lakers will be among the nine district (state) champions and one wildcard battling for the right to represent Southern in the Mixed Doubles Nationals later this year. The Couples came within a whisker (or was it a dropshot?) of winning the South Carolina championship last month. However, the champions were unable to make the trip to Southern, so the HHIslanders got the opportunity and took it.
Here is how the schedule sets up beginning with in-group round robin play the first two days that lead to a final faceoff on Sunday afternoon:
Fri. the 19th
8:30 a.m. -- SL The Odd Couples vs. AL(A)/Sr. Wise Aces, Dothan
1 p.m. -- SL The Odd Couples vs. LA/Bocage Racquet Club, Baton Rouge
Sat. the 20th
10 a.m. -- SL The Odd Couples vs. MS(B)/Fernwood Country Club
Sun. the 21st
8:30 a.m. -- SL The Odd Couples vs. NC/Cleveland Country Club, Shelby
1 p.m. -- Finals with Group I winner vs. Group II winner

Dangerous Playing Surface Bulldozed
HHI High School Tennis Court Project Is On a Roll …To Be Ready by '08
HILTON HEAD ISLAND SC (TENNIS E-News) -- The Bad News is there are no tennis courts at Hilton Head Island High School. The Good News is there are no tennis courts at Hilton Head Island High School.
Incorporated in that Good News is the total reconstruction of the high school tennis facility. The courts -- fencing and all -- were bulldozed and a complete new foundation laid for the six-court complex that was in such disrepair the courts were closed as a safety hazard.
The Lady Seahawks of HHI High have been without their own home courts for the fall season, making way for a late '07 completion of the courts and return to the site in early '08.

About That No- T-Shirts Rule for Combo States
(TENNIS E-News) -- That dress code restricting T-shirt wear by players and guests at the South Carolina Combo League State Championships has been clarified, noting that the restrictions apply only to matches played at Daniel Island Club, a satellite site that will be used as needed for spillover action from Family Circle Tennis Center.
The tournament schedule, with sites designated, should be released in about a week for the Oct. 25-28 event. The dress code is in effect for any play at Daniel Island Club, including juniors. Here is a link to the restrictions:

Note
ooooO Justin Jarrett of Island Packet Sports kicks off our sniping about "kick off" funmaking, pointing out:
( ) From Webster's: kick something off: 1. Remove something, esp. shoes, by striking out vigorously
( ) with the foot or feet. 2. (informal) to begin something: "the presidential primary kicks off the
(___) political year."
-- Actually, Justin, with donkeys and elephants as symbols, political kickoffs have a different fit.
