SC Combo States Championships Scramble After All-Day Rain in Charleston

DANIEL ISLAND SC (TENNIS E-News via TennisLink) -- With 158 teams in play and a rainout of first-day play, the South Carolina Combo State Championships schedule was tossed out the window and the scramble was on today. Ten HHI league teams are competing in Adult, Senior and Super Senior levels.

No results were posted on TennisLink Friday, so we guessed that it rained in Charleston. Today, it appears that one of the following happened:

1) Every match played on every court was a straight-set match OR

2) Because of weather backup, all matches were pro sets … and probably no-ad scoring. And since all posted matches show only two sets (imagine a tournament with no third-set match tiebreaks), it appears that one of the following is true:

1) USTA/TennisLink never thought a league championship would be interrupted by rain OR

2) No one with USTA/TennisLink knows how to program TennisLink to accept a pro-set score and so a fake two-set score is keyed into the system to at least show which team won and how many courts each team won. Example: A posted score of 6-3, 6-3 actually was a 10-6 pro set.

Left to our own estimations, we have determined that the Spanish Wells Combo is rolling into Sunday play with the best record of HHI teams entered, winning two 2-1 matches in Adult 5.5 Women's Division. Wexford 7.5 Smash is on top of its Adult Women's group with a 1-1 record and tied in courts won/lost and sets lost, but with fewer games lost.

Betcha we're guessing that matches are continuing into the night and will be on early Sunday in an attempt to determine group winners to advance to semifinals and finals Sunday and Monday.

Here's our best guess at results. The times are probably all incorrect and rescheduled, this shows what matches are yet to be played:
