Hogg Doggs Pick Off Two Combo 1st Places on Courts-Won Stats
HILTON HEAD ISLAND SC (TENNIS E-News) -- Port Royal Hogg Dogs tied for first place in Adult 7.5 Men's Combo, but remain top dogs at season end with most courts won. Port Royal Hogg Dogs tied for first place in Senior 7.5 Men's Combo, but remain top dogs at season end with most courts won. Well, they have that act down straight as HHI's Combo leagues roll into final matches.
The Hogg Doggs finished with 4-2 records in both brackets and now face some fancy roster dancing when the South Carolina Combo State Championships pop up at the end of this month on Daniel Island. (See related commentary below.) The Adult 6.5 Women have one playdate to go and the Adult 6.5 Men two. Senior Combo is finished.
Meanwhile in Super Seniors, Long Cove Super Retreads remained unbeaten by taking three courts from previously undefeated Spring Lake Ultimates Wednesday, setting up #1 and #2 spots in 3.5 Men's 60s. In 3.0 Women's 60s, the Sun City Hot Shots and Country Club of Hilton Head Tiebreakers at deadlocked at 7-1 with three match dates to go. In 3.0 Men's 70s, three teams are tied for first place at 5-1 going into final playdate Tuesday.
In the new Super Senior 75s, that age concept has gone over so well with a complete round robin nearly finished that the six 3.0 teams have voted to do another round, meaning a 10-match schedule instead of just five. Senior Men's Coordinator Don Grider already is counting numbers on how many local players will be aging into the 75s for next year's season.

A Player's Commentary on Dress Code
No T-Shirts, Sleeveless Shirts at Daniel Island Combo States: Say Wot?????
You all have an audience and some influence to the overall South Carolina USTA community. Here is something that just seems wrong to me. The USTA (South Carolina) States (Championships) Combo is being played at Daniel Island as it has been for years. This year they have implemented a "dress code" that seems a little ridiculous to me:
"Gentlemen:
"Tennis shorts are required with collared shirts or dri-fit shirts specifically designed for tennis. NO tee shirts, sleeveless shirts or tank tops are permitted.Warm-ups and sweatshirts are permitted for colder weather."
There are more dress code rules. Here is the whole web page.
I have no problem with some of the dress code but the "no tee shirts" rule goes over-board. So, the USTA tennis tee-shirt that I buy each year and enjoy wearing can not be used for playing tennis at Daniel Island? Come on, give us a break.
Daniel Island is a very nice facility and it is a privilege to play there but .....
NO, THERE IS NOT A TAHHI FALL FESTIVAL THIS WEEKEND AT PD … OR ANYWHERE.
HILTON HEAD ISLAND SC (TENNIS E-News) -- The Tennis Association of HHI ain't taking a fifth this weekend. The 5th annual Fall Tennis Festival ain't happenin', despite reports to the contrary in our Hilton Head Monthly magazine column. The annual tennis fun and games apparently was voted off the activities list early this year, but it still remains on the schedule on the website www.tahhi.org. So, you're on your own for court excitement this weekend.
