What counts toward 2009 year-end ratings?
Latest word is that match results that will go into determining 2009 year-end ratings will be: 2009 Spring League season and championships, Super Senior Fall season but NOT the championships (which fall after USTA Nationals), plus Mixed Doubles, but only if a player competes in Mixed Doubles and no other league season.
1,500 Players
Day One: HHI, CCTA Teams Are 2-0 at South Carolina Senior States Championships
HILTON HEAD ISLAND SC (TENNIS E-NEWS) – With 1,500 players in the draws, Hilton Head Island and Coastal Carolina teams got a good start today in the USTA League South Carolina Senior State Championships being played at the Sea Pines Racquet Club headquarters site and several other satellite clubs. In-group round robins will continue Sunday, with winners advancing to Monday semifinals and finals.
Finishing the day with 2-0 records were HHI Women’s 3.5 Spring Lake Twisted Sisters, CCTA Men’s 3.0 Sun City Slickers, HHI Men’s 3.0 Country Club of Hilton Head Hustlers and CCTA Women’s 3.0 Dataw Darlins. The CCTA Women’s 3.0 #2 Sun City Sweet Shots are 1-1, but in the lead of their group.
Standings are very close in many of the groups, with all four teams tied at 1-1 going into Sunday. No group is closer, however, than the Women’s 3.5s involving the Sun City Madam Butterflies. All four teams are 1-1. All four teams are 3-3 in courts won-lost. Two sets separate the four teams in sets lost and only five points in games lost. The Butterflies are in second, losing seven sets to the #1 Aiken’s six.
The 22 HHI and Coastal Carolina teams competing make up a big chunk of the 98 teams in the draws that range from the 2.5s through 4.5s.
Last May before creation of the CCTA, 28 HHI League teams were among the 109 teams competing. A USC-Beaufort study showed that the ’08 championships brought almost $1.4 million into the HHI economy.
Overall team championship numbers are down some – 98 teams while 109 competed in 2008. Uneven number of districts created a situation in two divisions that went to 12 teams this year instead of 16, State League Coordinator Mary Goins said. That plus there is no Women’s 2.5 this year and the Men’s 2.5s have only the local league champions from HHI and CCTA. Overall champions will advance to Southern Section Championships in July in Birmingham AL.
This is the first Spring season championships since HHI and the mainland split into two league districts. Now, some of the teams are surprised to be bunched in the same preliminary round robin groups and met in first matches.
Here are results and the schedule of HHITL and CCTA teams as gleaned (cross-eyed) from TennisLink. A few results are inexplicably not posted. Keep in close touch with your captain for late changes. (Note the difference in two sites: Sea Pines RC and SP Country Club.)

Two years ago TENNIS E-News ran a well-received series of excerpts from "The Code, The Players' Guide for Unofficiated Matches". You have asked for a repeat? You got it.
What is a Coman tiebreak? During a tiebreak, players shall change ends after the first point and thereafter after every four points. (This means that each player will serve from the same side throughout the tiebreak.)
*Note: TENNIS E-News is not making up these items. All are taken word-for-word from USTA's "The Code" that can be found in the "Friend at Court" handbook or as a stand-alone leaflet -- available by going to http://www.usta.com and selecting "USTA Shop" and then "Books" on that page.
