Wexford Player Slayers, SCYacht Ms. Fits Carry HHI Women’s Banner into Semifinals in Adult State Chmps

GREENVILLE SC (TENNIS E-NEWS via TennisLink) – The Hilton Head Island women are at it again. The 2.5 South Carolina Yacht Club Ms. Fits and 3.0 Wexford Player Slayers stayed undefeated today and advanced to Monday semifinals in the South Carolina Adult State Championships, following on the heels of HHI and Coastal Carolina teams that won Adult championships two weeks ago in Aiken.

The Player Slayers, captained by Teri Rohan, rolled to a 4-1 win over Columbia Northwest Y’s Women for a 10 a.m. spot Monday against Columbia Tennis League’s Spin of the Racket.

The Ms. Fits, captained by Lynda Halpern, went to 3-0 with today’s 2-1 win over Greenville Country Club Shoe-Ins. SCYC will go to court at 8 a.m. Monday against PeeDee’s Florence Country Club women who got a wildcard into the semis.

Someone Sure Will Explain It To Us Again, But ………...

The Women’s 2.5s had three groups, meaning a winner from each group would advance to semifinals, plus a wildcard.

In Group I, three teams tied with 2-1 records. All three won six courts and lost three. Fewest sets lost? Grand Strand and Lexington each lost seven; Spartanburg lost eight. Fewest games lost? Grand Strand lost 61; Lexington lost 62. The group winner was decided by one game. That close. The wild card, however, went to PD that placed second to an undefeated team in another group.

Here are today’s results and the schedule for HHITL and CCTA teams as posted on TennisLink:

Two years ago TENNIS E-News ran a well-received series of excerpts from "The Code, The Players' Guide for Unofficiated Matches". You have asked for a repeat? You got it.

During a rally in a singles match played on a doubles court without singles sticks, a player hits a shot that was going out until it hits the doubles post and careens into the proper court. Who wins the point? The player who hit the shot wins the point because the entire doubles net and doubles posts are respectively the net and net posts for this match. (If the ball does land in the correct court, however, the point continues.)

*Note: TENNIS E-News is not making up these items. All are taken word-for-word from USTA's "The Code" that can be found in the "Friend at Court" handbook or as a stand-alone leaflet -- available by going to http://www.usta.com and selecting "USTA Shop" and then "Books" on that page.
