5 HHI, 3 CCTA Teams in 2.5, 3.0, 3.5 Playoffs

Women’s Teams Winning on Tough Road at South Carolina Adult State Championships in Greenville

GREENVILLE SC (TENNIS E-News via TennisLink) – Wexford, SC Yacht and Bluffton women’s teams got off on the right foot today in what is always a tough competition for Hilton Head Island and Coastal Carolina teams: the South Carolina Adult State 2.5, 3.0 and 3.5 Championships. The 3.0 Wexford Player Slayers added a second win late in the day, defeating Bluffton.

Play began Friday, but no area teams played until today and have a 4-6 record in the early in-group round robins. Some matches are continuing late today.

The Beaufort Red Hot Chili Peppers team, captained by Cathy McGill, was omitted from the schedule’s headline lineup earlier in the week and TENNIS E-NEWS missed ‘em too. Go Peppers! That makes the area contingent five from HHI and three from CCTA in the first Spring season that the two have operated as separate areas.

The team in-group round robins will continue Sunday to decide which will advance to Monday semifinals and finals.

HHI’s PDTC 4.5 women and CCTA 4.0 women’s Beaufort Sea Islanders won Adult State championships two weeks ago in Aiken.

Two years ago TENNIS E-News ran a well-received series of excerpts from "The Code, The Players' Guide for Unofficiated Matches". You have asked for a repeat? You got it.

Who wins the point if a player hits a ball that hits an object attached to the net or post (such as a scoring device) and then lands in the proper court? The player who hit the ball loses the point because it hit a permanent fixture before landing in the court.

*Note: TENNIS E-News is not making up these items. All are taken word-for-word from USTA's "The Code" that can be found in the "Friend at Court" handbook or as a stand-alone leaflet -- available by going to http://www.usta.com and selecting "USTA Shop" and then "Books" on that page.
