USTA League Standings

“It may have been chocolate Valentines and unwanted rain drops, but CCTA 4.0 Adult Women beat all the Las Vegas odds and got their matches in!”

HILTON HEAD ISLAND SC (TENNIS E-News) – That quote from Coastal Carolina’s Vivian Wayne pretty much covered USTA League action through most of last week … and especially on the weekend. Teams still were catching up on matches postponed because of frozen and otherwise wet courts.

Some divisions – especially adults – have yet to start their spring season schedules. Here are the standings as posted on TennisLink as of Saturday.

NEW AGAIN IN 2009: Two years ago TENNIS E-News ran a well-received series of excerpts from "The Code, The Players' Guide for Unofficiated Matches". You have asked for a repeat? You got it.

Warmup is not practice – A player should provide the opponent … a 10-minute warmup … Some players confuse warmup and practice. Each player should make a special effort to his shots directly to the opponent … A player should take all warmup serves before the first serve of the match.

*Note: TENNIS E-News is not making up these items. All are taken word-for-word from USTA's "The Code" that can be found in the "Friend at Court" handbook or as a stand-alone leaflet -- available by going to http://www.usta.com and selecting "USTA Shop" and then "Books" on that page.

( ) When I was 40, my doctor advised me that a man in his 40s shouldn’t play tennis.
( ) I heeded his advice carefully and could hardly wait until I reached 50 to start again.
