HILTON HEAD ISLAND SC – The Professional Tennis Registry (PTR) presented its annual awards this week and Hilton Head Islander Dr. Bryce Young was named the PTR Member of the year for South Carolina.

The award to the well-traveled sports psychologist and author was made during the PTR International Tennis Symposium that is midway through its 60-plus on-court and classroom presentations, a tennis trade show and $25,000 Championships at Van Der Meer Shipyard Racquet Club. The trade show, open from noon to 5 p.m. Wednesday and 8 a.m. to noon Thursday, is free to the general public.

The PTR selects “one member who has displayed the utmost in professionalism on and off the tennis court” to be honored as State Member of the Year. Honorees are active in tennis in their communities and show dedication and service to PTR. Not all states have an honoree.

PTR, operating from its HHI headquarters, is the largest global organization of tennis-teaching professionals with more than 13,000 members in 122 countries.

NEW AGAIN IN 2009: Two years ago TENNIS E-News ran a well-received series of excerpts from "The Code, The Players' Guide for Unofficiated Matches". You have asked for a repeat? You got it.

Correcting errors: If a player serves out of turn during a tiebreak game and the error is discovered after an even number of points have been played, the error is corrected immediately. If the error is discovered after an odd number of points have been played, the order of service shall remain as altered.

A fault that was served by the opponent(s) before the error was discovered shall not stand. In doubles, if the partners of one team serve out of turn, a fault that was served before the error was discovered shall stand.

*Note: TENNIS E-News is not making up these items. All are taken word-for-word from USTA's "The Code" that can be found in the "Friend at Court" handbook or as a stand-alone leaflet -- available by going to http://www.usta.com and selecting "USTA Shop" and then "Books" on that page.
