Late Spring Season
Super Senior Mixed Doubles Next for Hilton Head Island???
HILTON HEAD ISLAND SC (TENNIS E-News) – Attention Super Seniors, you now have another reason to keep yourself out of (or in) trouble: a 2009 Mixed Doubles League starting in late spring and leading into South Carolina State Championships in the fall.
Coastal Carolina Tennis Association already has set up its SSMxD, with four teams registered in combo 6.0, two in 7.0 and four in 8.0.
HHI Local League Coordinator Jackie Reynecke issued a call for captains and players for all combo levels.
HHI’s Don Grider and former Islander Mickey Bearden probably didn’t realize how big a movement they started when they coordinated the first Super Senior pilot program back in the last century that now plays to national championships in April. What started as 62 & older leagues evolved into 60s, then added 70s, then 75s rated divisions and Super Senior Men’s and Women’s Combo.
The Hilton Head Island SS Mixed would begin right after the USTA League spring season. Interested? Email jackie@palmettodunes.com.

With all matches open free to spectators (unlike Verizon Heritage), each team match will consist of six singles and three doubles courts.
The 25th annual SBT will have men’s and women’s teams representing NCAA Div. I, II, III, NAIA and Junior Colleges, ccordinated by owner/operator Ray Yost, tennis coach of Mercyhurst College, Erie PA. Matches will continue daily through Mar. 31.

NEW AGAIN IN 2009: Two years ago TENNIS E-News ran a well-received series of excerpts from "The Code, The Players' Guide for Unofficiated Matches". You have asked for a repeat? You got it.
Continuous play: No extra time shall be given to allow a player to recover condition. However, a player suffering from a treatable medical condition may be allowed one medical timeout of three minutes for that medical condition. A limited number of toilet/change of attire breaks may also be allowed, if this is announced at the start of an event.
*Note: TENNIS E-News is not making up these items. All are taken word-for-word from USTA's "The Code" that can be found in the "Friend at Court" handbook or as a stand-alone leaflet -- available by going to http://www.usta.com and selecting "USTA Shop" and then "Books" on that page.
