3.5 Senior Men’s Interclub
Indigo Run Wins Final Match Over Long Cove To Clinch Championship
HILTON HEAD ISLAND SC (TENNIS E-News via Don Ross) – The 3.5 Senior Men’s Interclub season is history as Indigo Run defeated Long Cove 3-0 Friday to finish first in the division. Indigo Run wrapped up a 9-0 record and didn't lose a single court throughout the season. Tied for second was Sea Pines Country Club and South Beach.
With teams scheduled to play two matches during each of the final two weeks, weather and seasonal court-resurfacing wrecked the late schedule and caused a bevy of cancellations. Interclub also overlapped the start of the USTA League Senior season that took precedence over the Interclub matches.
Annual just-so-ya-know note: The Women’s Interclub plays a complete fall/winter season as well. However, that league prefers to stay out of the publicity light, playing “just for fun” and not making scores and standings available.
Here are the final standings of the Men’s 3.5s:
Matches Courts
Club
Indigo Run 9 0 27 0
South Beach 6 1 14 7
Sea Pines 6 1 14 7
Country Club of HH 5 3 16 8

Port Royal 4 4 10 14

10-Year Plan
Third $7,500 Installment Goes to Town for Chaplin Courts
HILTON HEAD ISLAND SC (TENNIS E-News) -- The third $7,500 annual installment for construction of the two newest courts at Chaplin Public Tennis Center was turned over to Town of Hilton Head Island Tuesday by John Parente, president of Public Tennis, Inc.
PTI was the driving force in creation of the public court facility that originally was only four courts. The organization entered into an agreement with the town to fund two additional courts through a 10-year plan of $7,500 payments. PTI has been raising money for the courts through a variety of programs including league play, drawings for US Open tickets, weekly roundrobins and other special events.
To keep up with the funding progress and activities, email chaplinroundrobin@hotmail.com and ask to be added to the mail list of the Chaplin Chatter e-newsletter.

NEW AGAIN IN 2009: Two years ago TENNIS E-News ran a well-received series of excerpts from "The Code, The Players' Guide for Unofficiated Matches". You have asked for a repeat? You got it.
Out calls corrected. If a player mistakenly calls a ball "out" and then realizes it was good, the point shall be replayed if the player returned the ball within the proper court. Nonetheless, if the player's return of the ball results in a "weak sitter," the player should give the opponent the point. If the player failed to make the return, the opponent wins the point. If the mistake was made on the second serve, the server is entitled to two serves.
*Note: TENNIS E-News is not making up these items. All are taken word-for-word from USTA's "The Code" that can be found in the "Friend at Court" handbook or as a stand-alone leaflet -- available by going to http://www.usta.com and selecting "USTA Shop" and then "Books" on that page.
