Admission is free to spectators for all the matches.

More than 210 college teams from throughout the eastern half of the country will be competing this year. That’s about 2,500 players and coaches, many accompanied by parents and friends who will infuse one helluva chunk of change into Hilton Head Island and area lodging, restaurants, souvenir shops and the like.

Hilton Head Island Beach & Tennis Resort again will be SBT headquarters for owner/operator Ray Yost, who also is head coach for Mercyhurst College of Erie PA. Matches will be played morning, afternoon and night there throughout the month. Many satellite sites will be in play, including Chaplin Public Tennis Center, Hilton Head Island High School and Middle School, Bluffton High, Beaufort Academy and some at Bacon Park in Savannah.

The first week’s schedule, including sites, is an attachment to this E-News. A running schedule and results are to appear daily in The Island Packet. Information also is on http://www.springbreaktennis.com with code word SBT2009.

NEW AGAIN IN 2009: Two years ago TENNIS E-News ran a well-received series of excerpts from "The Code, The Players' Guide for Unofficiated Matches". You have asked for a repeat? You got it.

Can a player call a let on a neighboring court? Only an official or a player can call a let. A player may call a let only on the player’s court.

*Note: TENNIS E-News is not making up these items. All are taken word-for-word from USTA's "The Code" that can be found in the "Friend at Court" handbook or as a stand-alone leaflet -- available by going to http://www.usta.com and selecting "USTA Shop" and then "Books" on that page.
