Watanabe, Bracken Lead Parade of Championships With Two Each at Luck of the Irish
HILTON HEAD ISLAND SC (TENNIS E-NEWS) – Lee Bracken and Jolene Watanabe each got lucky twice in today’s championships in the 26th annual “Luck of the Irish” Tournament at Palmetto Dunes Tennis Center in “THE BEST TOURNAMENT WEATHER EVER”.
All 204 entrants most likely agreed with that shout from Tournament Director Jackie Reynecke – a welcome weather report just a week after the Fripp Island Spring Clay Court Championships final day was completely rained out. Well, it’s named the “Luck of the Irish” … and, whether any Irish were on the draws, the good mood prevailed as the players chipped in with a plethora of three-set matches.
Here are Saturday and today match results, straight from the Reynecke ‘puter, with a tad of compiliatory editing. Players are from Hilton Head Island unless otherwise noted:

NEW AGAIN IN 2009: Two years ago TENNIS E-News ran a well-received series of excerpts from "The Code, The Players' Guide for Unofficiated Matches". You have asked for a repeat? You got it.
If a player’s hat falls off during a point, may the opponent stop play and claim a let? Yes. The opponent’s immediate request should be granted. A let should not be granted after the point nor should a request from the player who lost the hat.
What happens if the ball hits a player’s hat that landed on the court earlier in the point? The ball remains in play because the opponent did not ask for a let. When play continued after the hat landed on the court, the hat became part of the court. Therefore, when a ball hits the hat, it is treated in the same manner as if the ball had hit the court.
If you have a question or situation you would like to have addressed, email banana@hargray.com separately and we will try to help.
