Killer Bees Stung at 3.5, not 3.0 at Sectionals
If you are good 4 out of 5 times in baseball, you’re a millionaire. In e-print, not so much. And worse, we screwed up in bigger type.

Champions at Litchfield: Jilly, Whitlow I, Vander Berg, Meade, Whitlow II (Twice)
Hilton Head Island SC (TENNIS E-NEWS via TennisLink) – It was another fun weekend at Litchfield Racquet Club for Hilton Head Island area players – the A. Foster McKissick Tennis Tournament – if by fun you call temps in the low 30s and winds to take the chill factor well lower. But four HHIslanders and one from Sun City Hilton Head grinned and beared (not bared) it to win championships. The USTA-sanctioned tournament had 196 entrants, the bulk of them in rated divisions.
Tom Jilly, Keith Whitlow and Frank Meade of HHI won singles, as did Paul Vander Berg of Sun City, while HHI’s Athena Whitlow won twice in doubles.HHI’s Bob Cooke in singles and Eddie Goodson in doubles were finalists.
A long way to play a fellow Islander, but Jilly defeated Cooke 6-2, 6-4 as the only two in the Men’s 45 draw. Whitlow, the Mejn’s 60 #1 seed, breezed through three straight-set matches, taking the final 6-4, 7-5 over Chuck Maland of Knoxville TN. Second-seeded Meade won the Men’s 75 championship by defeating topseed Joe Roberts of Greenville 6-0, 6-2. Unseeded Vander Berg upset #3 Santiago Benites of Poquoson VA 7-6(5), 2-6, 6-2 for the Men’s 70 title.
The Women’s 50 and 55 doubles had only two entries each and HHIslander Whitlow teamed with Carrie Randall of Mt. Pleasant to win both championships. In 50s, they defeated Tina Floyd and Linda Murphy of Spartanburg 6-1, 6-2. In 55s, they won 6-1, 6-1 over Lorna Harling of Keene NH and Janice Modjeski of Murrells Inlet.
Goodson and John Vick of Lexington knocked off top-seeded Federico Gildemeister and Graham Snook of Myrtle Beach in the Men’s 55 doubles semifinals, but fell 6-3, 6-3 in the finals to Hack Clinkscales of Belton and Glenn White of Columbia.

NEW AGAIN IN 2009: Two years ago TENNIS E-News ran a well-received series of excerpts from "The Code, The Players' Guide for Unofficiated Matches". You have asked for a repeat? You got it.
Case: A player standing outside the court hits the ball or catches it before it bounces and claims the point because the ball was definitely going out of the correct court. Decision: The player loses the point, unless it is a good return, in which case the point continues.
*Note: TENNIS E-News is not making up these items. All are taken word-for-word from USTA's "The Code" that can be found in the "Friend at Court" handbook or as a stand-alone leaflet -- available by going to http://www.usta.com and selecting "USTA Shop" and then "Books" on that page.
