Super Seniors Note: An Irish parade turns into a promotion for the Banana Open Junior Challenge – big pix on IPacket Page 1.

Guess you SS folks didn’t cotton to the TENNIS E-NEWS suggestion of parading (with the other “Irish”) the eight Super Senior state

championship teams from HHI and CCTA that will be heading to Southern Sectionals this weekend. We have a theme here:

Tennis is BIG; HHI area is BIG in tennis … let’s brag about it.

2008 South Carolina champions

9 HHI, CCTA Teams Set for Super Senior Sectionals in Alabama

HILTON HEAD ISLAND SC (TENNIS E-News) – Eight South Carolina champions and one finalist from the HHI and Coastal Carolina leagues will be heading to Birmingham shortly for the 2008 Southern Super Senior Championships. They will compete against Fall 2008 champions from eight other southern states.

Matchplay starts early Friday with teams playing in-group round robins through Saturday, aiming to get to Sunday afternoon finals and the chance to advance to Nationals Apr. 24-29 in Phoenix AZ.

Having fought through local league play and then the SC Championships last fall, HHI area teams will run into a familiar situation: playing against all-star teams, i.e. teams competing at Southerns having played no matches – or very few – to get to Southern Championships. The Mississippi Women’s 4.0s, for example, show a roster of nine players from six different towns/cities. Teams are given the opportunity to advance to States and Southerns when there are no local leagues. If the all-star teams are not allowed, the HHI teams likely would have fewer opponents at Southerns … or none, like in the 2.5s. Southern and South Carolina still have not found any 2.5 players hiding under a rock somewhere … only on the sands of Hilton Head Island.

Here is the rundown on HHI and CCTA teams competing with captain in (parentheses):

60s

M3.0 – Sun City Court Jesters (Bill Flack)

M3.5 – Long Cove Super Retreads (Bill Cale)
