7 HHI League Teams Entered

Alley Cats 2-0, Smashers 1-0 After Day One at USTA League Adult States in Charleston

HILTON HEAD ISLAND SC (TENNIS E-News by TennisLink) -- The South Carolina Adult State Championships always are a tough assignment for Hilton Head Island league teams and today's opening rounds were no exception. Seven HHI entrants are in Charleston this weekend for the Men's and Women's 2.5, 4.0, 4.5 and 5.0 divisions

The Women's 2.5 Bluffton HS Alley Cats won 2-1 and 3-0 in group and need another win Sunday afternoon to advance to Monday morning semifinals. The Women's 4.0 Sea Pines Smashers lived up to the name by winning both singles and all three doubles today, setting up for two matches Sunday.

The Men's 5.0 and Women's 4.5 HHI teams both ended up on the wrong end of too many match tiebreaks in this morning's matches. The men lost two super tiebreaks in a 3-0 defeat; PD States or Busts also lost two in a 3-2 loss. The PD gals came back with a 5-0 late afternoon win. Not so the 5.0 guys.

As in the Senior States just concluded, the Adult winners will advance in July to the Southern Section Championships in Mobile AL against teams from Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina and Tennessee.
