Senior States Wrapup

7 Titles for HHI League Teams; Grand Strand Grand Winner with 4 Championships

HILTON HEAD ISLAND SC (TENNIS E-News) -- On the face of it, winning seven champion/finalist titles looks impressive, but four of those were in South Carolina Senior State Championships divisions in which the only teams entered were those from the Hilton Head Island leagues. It does say something about the success locally and failure statewide to organize at the 2.5 level among seniors.

The HHI league production was a record reversal from last year when four local teams won championships and three were finalists, but again two of the winners and two finalists were in the 2.5s.

The HHI #1 Men's 3.5 championship Indigo Run Golden Bear Claws will head for Southern Championships in late July in Mobile AL. The HHI #1 Women's 2.5 champs Sun City Rally Girls likewise will be going, provided any teams enter from the eight other states in the section. The Men's 2.5s winner Moss Creek Raging Bulls already have been told to stay home because no other states have Senior Men's 2.5s. Thus, the Raging Bulls are Southern champions, right?

Grand Strand won four category championships -- Men's 3.0, Men's and Women's 4.0 and Men's 4.5 -- and Lexington won Women's 3.0 and 4.5, while Columbia took the Women's 3.5.

Here are the complete finals day matches, plus a catch-up on Men's 2.5s that were posted this morning. Included are by-court results in the championship-deciding 2.5s and semis in 4.0s that were not posted until Wednesday morning:
