Super Senior 75s Begin Groundwork for Fall

HILTON HEAD ISLAND SC (TENNIS E-News) -- Super Senior 75s -- Men's AND Women's -- are in beginning stages of plans for a second-year season. The 75 & older format of three doubles per team match ran a full schedule last fall directed by coordinator Don Grider. It's another first for Hilton Head Island's burgeoning tennis paradise.

Although some interest surfaced from women, the '07 inaugural season involved just Men's 3.0 and 3.5 teams. It went over so well the 3.0s played a double round robin. The 75s format was hyped to USTA South Carolina and was promoted during the '07 Super Senior State Championships. Stay tuned.

The fall 75s will play in September and October with an anticipated six to eight Men's 3.0 teams and two or three teams in 3.5. New unattached players should contact Grider at dmgrider@roadrunner.com. Any interested women should contact Local Senior Coordinator Mary Ellen Arboe. She is off-island until June 2, but anyone needing information until then can contact Grider.

To play the 75s, a player must be at least 75 by the end of this year and must have a rating of 3.0 or 3.5 or can self-rate as either. Stronger 2.5 players could be acceptable.

Super Senior Coastal Carolina Tennis Association -- Ready, Set ……..

HILTON HEAD ISLAND SC (TENNIS E-News) -- The dust is finally settled on the Spring Senior Leagues, meaning it is time for Super Senior planning -- and this year that will be a major step. The Split, voted earlier this year, has created the Coastal Carolina Tennis Association that encompasses the 'cross-the-bridge area except for Moss Creek.

CCTA and the Tennis Association of Hilton Head Island (TAHHI) have begun the transition to completely separate league systems with each sending its category winners to South Carolina State Championships. This will take awhile, but will begin with the Super Senior season that begins in late August and early September.

TAHHI Men's Senior League Coordinator Don Grider has called for all captains of teams off Hilton Head Island, with the exception of Moss Creek, to submit information to the new CCTA officials. Moss Creek was voted to be part of the HHI leagues.

Captain's name, e-mail address, phone number, level and playing location(club) should be sent to:

League Coordinator Jerry Wayne (Dataw) at ccta10s@yahoo.com (telephone 843-838-7215) and Men's 3.5 Level Coordinator Ernie Clark (Sun City) at tennisracquets@yahoo.com (843-705-6903).

Grider asked that all Hilton Head Island and Moss Creek Super Senior captains advise him if they will not be captaining teams this year. Any new captain should send the personal information listed above to dmgrider@roadrunner.com.

Mixed Doubles Summer Team Registration -- Deadline Sunday

HILTON HEAD ISLAND SC (TENNIS E-News) -- Sunday is pre-registration deadline for adult/senior mixed teams planning to compete in this summer's USTA League season. A registration form is attached to this issue.
