Final Weekend for USTA Adult Schedule To Set Team Lineups for State Championships
HILTON HEAD ISLAND SC (TENNIS E-News) – It's the final weekend for USTA League Adult teams, setting the stage for the Adult State Championships later this month. The local champion 2.5, 4.0, 4.5 and 5.0 teams will head for Charleston May 17-19, while the 3.0s and 3.5s will go to Greenville May 31-June 2. And, no, that's not Memorial Day Weekend.
Most divisions already are settled with #1 spots occupied, but the 3.0 Men's and Women's and 3.5 Men's play their final matches Saturday.
Forty-one teams competed in the Adult divisions. The Women's 3.5, with 18 teams, is the largest division and only one with two flights, thus needing a playoff to determine #1 seeding for States. Stay tuned.

When Real Life Visits
Amid haggling over line calls and ratings and such critical issues ……..
(TENNIS E-News) -- Perhaps we need a butt-slap every now and again here on Tennis Paradise Isle to keep us within sight, at least, of the Real World. Like listening this week to a senior Islander explain that she is moving back north to care for her son who has ALS and really needs Mom's help.
Then too is word that everybody's popular partner and opponent Allan Mason will be missing from play for a while -- now recuperating at home following surgery for "a cancerous tumor about the size of a softball".
"Everyone has been so supportive and caring," writes wife Kathy. "We would like to thank all of Allan's friends and tennis buddies who offered help and prayers during his major surgery … We are so grateful to everyone!"
Good Tennis Information -- Just really, really bad writing
Keowee Key Team has the Key to the National League Championship (P.S. --That means they won.)
(copied from sctennis.com 04/29/2008) -- The USTA National Super Senior 6.0 Championship played in Mobile, Alabama this past weekend had teams from the 16 Sections. Our Southern Section representative was South Carolina’s UPTA/Keowee Key Krabs, captained by David Harvey.
Their first match against the Eastern team was won 3-0. In the next match Intermountain took 1 position against the team, but our guys triumphed 2-1. The next day against Northern Cal. a 3-0 victory clearly put the Krabs on top of their group.
The semi-finals pitted Southern against Caribbean. The 2-1 result put Southern in the finals against Florida. The hard fought 2-1 victory was sweet for all, except maybe the Florida players. With the victory, the National Championship was brought home to South Carolina by this bunch of happy guys.
We are proud of them and Congratulate them for all their hard work in achieving such an honor.
